The Time Has Come!

Hello world,

The fall 2010 semester is finally over! I love school, but I need the break. So many great things have happened to me this semester at Marymount, and I’ve learned some amazing things in my classes.

I expect to end up with four A’s and one B. So far I only have my final grade in my Intro to Journalism class, an A. Journalism was one of the less interesting topics I’ve learned about this semester. Interpersonal communication, on the other hand, was the most. My interpersonal communication course has actually taught me how to become a better communicator throughout my daily life.

For example, my skills from my interpersonal communication course helped me to communicate effectively during my interview for an internship at MTV. I got the internship, and I’m psyched! I’ll be preparing media clips and other fun intern stuff. I’m not too sure on the specific details yet, but I will be receiving three Marymount credits for the internship!

I’m on winter vacation until the spring 2011 semester begins in early February, although I begin my internship on January 18, 2011. While on my one month break I plan to do a few things: work on my strength and conditioning (something I neglect too often during the school semester), read 3-4 books, and write a television script. I am currently half way through the script writing process, but haven’t started the actual script yet.

Have a Happy Holiday season!

Have fun! Be safe!

Until next semester,
            Howard

P.S. There will be no cookies over the break, I’m on a diet!

Fun Times During My Commute

Hola World,

Three days a week I take New York City’s finest buses and subways to Marymount—my commute is approximately two hours in each direction. But with finals coming up in the next week or so, I’ve been utilizing my commute wisely by studying. I have to study for finals in Intro to Journalism, Business and Society, and Survey of Film and Video. But I also found time to get some footage of my commute to give you an idea of what it’s like. Enjoy!

Until next time,
               Cheers!

P.S. My dad bought Strawberry Oreos last week – I don’t recommend them.

Halloween...

Hello World,
Halloween was interesting! I ended up going to a haunted park in Ulster County, New York, with my brother and his girlfriend. I must admit, I did get scared a few times, mostly because the actors would pop out and touch me. My brother’s girlfriend, on the other hand, was running out of each haunted house towards the end--it was pretty funny.

My most memorable moment, besides gasping for air from laughing at my brother’s girlfriend, was when one of the actors said “I FOUND WALDO.” It took me a minute to figure out what she was talking about, but then I realized she was actually talking about me. All in all, the park wasn’t too scary – but it was pretty fun.

On November 2nd, however, I was really freaked out -- I went to see Paranormal Activity 2—WOW! After that, I started seeing shadows on the way home. Then when I was in my driveway I noticed a street light reflect off of my mirror--at midnight I might add--and I got a little freaked out—again. It’s just a movie though, and an hour later I it was laughing at myself.

When it comes to school, everything’s going well. I got a B on one of my papers in my Sense and Medium course and that stressed me out a little. My story on the new MMC Edge workshops  got published in the Monitor, the school’s newspaper, and I’m having a lot of fun with my radio show. I have actually learned a lot about myself from my radio show, including that I want to learn more about music.

You can catch me on air every Thursday from 11am-12pm at Griffin Radio

Until next time,

                Cheers!

P.S. I had Chips Ahoy this week.

Howard

Hello world, I’m Howard (you can call me Howie), a Communication Arts major and Business Management minor (I think).

I live at home in  Yonkers, which is in Westchester, NY. The commute from my house to MMC is approximately two hours in each direction--I take two buses and a train each way
. Living at home isn’t all that bad—I don’t have to clean my own dishes half of the time. I planned on living in the dorms and living the stereotypical college life (wake up, eat pizza, go to class, go to a party, wake up, etc…), instead I go out on the weekends and study during the week.

Photos (from left to right): The train I take from the Bronx to 72nd street, the bus I take from the West side to the East side.

When I’m not studying or commuting, I perform stand-up comedy in NYC every now and then, have my own radio show on WMMC Griffin Radio, and work for a social networking site aimed towards arts and entertainment. I also like to do a little fitness training when I find the time, as well as a little acting for some extra cash (mostly minor roles and background).

One other thing you should know about me is I have a very special place in my heart for Oreo cookies!!! (Especially with milk!!!)

Until next time, Cheers!
